More Home Brew

Since the Ginger Beer and the Pepper Vodka, (and a horrible experience trying to ferment rice wine) I am more and more obsessed with home brewing tintures. I saw the Good Eats episode about celery, in which he makes celery soda, and realized I could probably ferment that as well, rather than just mixing it with soda water. So it is slowly percolating away in a clean 2 litre soda bottle in the kitchen. When finished I'll need to do a taste test/compare and contrast with the soda water version.

Food Stories.

Two quick anecdotes:

I like a spicy food. Not too hot, but enough for a good burn. I like atomic fireballs, ordering my indian food spicy, making chilli powder, siracha sauce, and jalapeno poppers. In Minneapolis for Xmas we went to Chino Latino for dinner and ordered the habanero poppers off of the small plates menu. Four came with a shot glass made out of ice filled with lime sorbet. They came with a written warning not to complain to the server as you would be mocked by the entire staff. J., her mother, and I each ate one. I couldn't speak for several minutes and we fought over the lime sorbet. J. started eating sour cream with her fingers. For the first time ever I saw my mother-in-law wince from spicy food. And then we all had, for the first time, that magical spicy food moment where you get the chills. It was awesome.

On the way home we bought cheese curds in the gift shop in the Milwaukee airport. I battered and fried them for a friend from Green Bay. It was delicious.
